Still Life Assignment

In this assignment I took pictures of objects in a commercial setting. I wanted to use colorful things to make the pictures more interesting. I needed to use perspective to keep the pictures from being boring. I continued to use the light editing to fit the lighting at the time.

Puns GIMP Assignment

In this assignment we had to create visual puns using two or more pictures and combining them together. We had to use GIMP to scale all the images to the same size and put them next to each other in one document.

In this assignment I learned how difficult it is to combine pictures and make it look good. This was probably one of the harder GIMP assignments we've had so far because you have to be very creative when you think of these puns.

Motion Assignment

In this assignment I got pictures of Mitchell jumping off the walls to capture the motion. I wanted to make it look like he's frozen in mid air with his feet against the wall. I also tried blurring out the background in other pictures.

In this assignment I learned how important digital noise is. And how it can ruin a good picture. One of the first motion pictures I got was perfect because he was in mid air and he had a good face, but it was so dark that it ruined the whole picture. Now I truly know how critical the light settings are.

Architecture Assignment

In this assignment I went to downtown Ann Arbor to take pictures of fancy old fashioned architecture. I wanted to capture the interesting details on the outside of the buildings. I made sure to use perspective in these pictures so they wouldn't turn out boring

In this assignment I learned how to use perspective with buildings to make the photos look interesting. We learned about perspective earlier in one of the composition assignments, so I used that experience to make the pictures look cool. I also had to edit the settings to fit the bright afternoon sunlight.

GIMP School Assignment

In this assignment we had to take a picture of the school and put it in GIMP to edit it and add things that normally wouldn't be there, like a tornado. We had to go to Google and search for pictures to edit on another GIMP and combine the two pictures.

In assignment I learned how to combine two pictures using the eraser tool, layers, and resizing. I continued to use the crop tool and adding multiple layers. This assignment was easier than I thought it would be, it just took a lot of time to erase all the little details.

Motion Demo Assignment

In this assignment we had to capture the subject on a bicycle riding past as we blurred out the background. Then we had to upload the pictures and use GIMP to edit them. For editing we cropped it and changed the color levels.

ISO- 800
Shutter Speed- 1/60
Aperture- 2.8

In this project I learned how to blur out the background while focusing on the subject. To do that you just follow the subject as it moves with your camera. I thought this assignment was going to be harder that it actually was. After getting the actual picture the editing was easy because we've used color levels and cropping before.

Nature Assignment

In this assignment I tried to get cool pictures of nature and I showed the difference of the snowy weather outside and bright flowers inside. I used a lot of macro for the flowers. The I had to zoom in to get pictures of the trees.

In this assignment I learned how to pick out pretty things in nature no matter what season it is, but it is more difficult to take pictures in the winter because everything is so dead and bare. I continued to use macro because it makes a big difference when you do.

GIMP Panoramic Assignment

In this assignment we had to take three pictures and put them together using GIMP. In GIMP we used resizing, erasing, cloning, layers, and transform to fit all of the pictures together. You had to overlap the three picture by only 20 percent so that you can overlap them when you fit them together and make them look like one big picture. You had to take the photos on a tripod so that you don't move and change the angle you're shooting at.

In this assignment I learned how to use all the new tools. I had to make the lighting match up in each picture. I learned to use multiple layers and overlap them so they match perfectly. Then I had to use the erase tool and make the pictures line up and erase lines. I also learned about new tools like, opacity, rotate, scale, perspective, and move.

GIMP Portrait Assignment

In this assignment we had to use layers, framing, resizing photos, adding text. We used portraits of classmates. One was taken using window light, the other was taken with studio light. For the window light we had to use a white board to bounce the light off and make the shadows go away.

In this assignment I learned about using lighting. I also learned how to angle the bounce card to get rid of shadows. We also needed to use studio lights and we had to adjust out camera settings depending on the lights. Then I had to combine the pictures on one document. We needed to use a lot of layers and coloring.

Black and White Assignment

In this assignment I used macro and black and white. I tried to highlight the contrast of black and white in the pictures. Macro seemed t help those two colors pop. I also tried to use a unique perspective to make the pictures more interesting.

I learned how important perspective and macro are when taking a picture. They add depth and make the picture more interesting. I also learned that using objects with more colors is better for black and white because there is more of a contrast and you notice the picture is in black and white.

Macro Assignment

In this assignment I tried to use the macro settings on my camera to get up close pictures. Macro is used to show details of an object. You don't have to zoom in when you se Macro, you just get up close to the object.

Best Picture

Aperture- 2.8
ISO- 800
Shutter Speed- 1/50

In this assignment I learned how to use the macro setting and what angles work best when getting up close on an object. I continued to work on lighting and settings the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed according to the amount of light available.

Gimp Car Assignment

In this assignment we had to use many new tools in GIMP, like levels and clone. We also learned about dodging, burning, cropping, and straightening. This project seemed difficult, but after going through the steps and following the instructions it wasn't that bad.

In this assignment I learned about cloning and how to make smudges or glaring lights disappear. I also learned how to color over the background so the picture looks cleaner and more professional. Then I made the whole picture darker and brought out the bright color in the car and tinted the window.

Animal Assignment

For this assignment I was taking pictures of my dogs. I tried to get pictures that showed their personalities and what they're like and normally do. My older dog is protective and watchful so i got pictures of him looking out the window. My other puppy is exciting and young so she's always playing with her toys. I made sure to use the rule of thirds and adjust the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed.

In this assignment I worked on using ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. The only thing I really had trouble with was not having enough lighting. So I needed to take the pictures during the day. That way I could lower the ISO and there would be less digital noise.

GIMP Assignment

In this assignment we used a new program, GIMP. GIMP is a editing program that helped us use color, resizing, layering, guides, threshold dialog, and anchoring a layer. We used these tools to create a colorful popart picture.

I learned about the program GIMP. It was difficult to understand, but after a couple of tries i finally got it. We used many tools including, colors, cropping, and resizing. After going through it many times, I understand it and it was easier and more fun.
